Still using ie6? You're missing out on all the fun!

Many of our corporate clients have problems using websites and online systems because they are using Internet Explorer version 6.

IE6 is the bane of web developers and web users alike. Released in 2001, it’s the equivalent of using a horse and cart when everyone else drives a car. The problems with the browser are listed below.

  • There are currently over 240 known security issues with the IE6 browser.
  • Internet Explorer is now faster, safer (better security) and more usable.
  • You’re probably missing out on things you don’t even know are there. IE6 tends to display things very differently from everyone else, thus you will have problems viewing many websites.
  • Asking your web designer to make your site work in IE6 wastes a lot of time and money, which all goes towards making things work properly on one single ancient browser.
  • Major sites such as Facebook and YouTube are no longer choosing to support IE6, so if you still have it, you won’t be able to use these sites properly. The trend is likely to spread.
  • Microsoft themselves recommend that you upgrade to IE8 for safer web browsing.
  • Google “bring down ie6” and you’ll find a host of sites backing us up on this.
  • There are other browsers available that (in our opinion) are better than Internet Explorer.

Convinced?

Download Firefox (our favourite)

Download the latest version of Internet Explorer

Download Opera

Download Chrome (Google's new browser)

How to tell what browser you're using

The following instructions will work for most browsers. If you can't see the exact options below, look for something similar.

  • In the File Menu (at the top) go to "Help"
  • Select "About"
  • A window will popup telling you what browser you are using, as well as a number telling you what version it is
