A Closer Look at Search Engine Optimisation
Like all businesses we become so busy servicing our customers that we sometimes forget about our own business. In the last 6 years the Eduka website has never been optimised for the search engines as all our work has been referral based. In December 2006 we decided to change that, here is what happened..
The graph below shows the performance of our site, www.eduka.com, for 3 specific keywords over a 3-month period on one of the three top Search Engines. This data was charted daily based on our website's position for each keyword in the Search Engine Results Page.

This graph shows significant climbs on several days for all three keywords, and it's no coincidence that these climbs perfectly correspond with the optimisation changes that were made mere days prior.
The optimisation changes to the site included:

This graph also shows several declines, from minor to severe, which clearly show that without constant monitoring of ranking and continual optimisation changes, your site may not always hold its place on the result pages.
One of the keywords rank went on the decline two separate times before rising drastically, and this rise was purely the result of constantly monitoring and changing our Optimisation Scheme in an effort to determine what was working best.

Though this graph shows rankings in the Search Engine Results Pages for three separate keywords, you might be surprised to learn that the optimisation that was performed was for only one keyword.
The optimisation for our targeted keyword caused the rankings for the other two keywords to rise as well, even though they were not part of our targeted scheme, and the other two keywords only shared one word out of three in the phrase.
